ABOUT THE SERIES "TWO IN THE APARTMENT, NOT COUNTING THE DOGS"

This project was conceived and implemented during the period of self-isolation. The main goal of the project was to study feelings, reactions, new experiences and  the state of a person inside a closed space at the moment of the World Pause and new reality. The project consists of several canvases, on which the different  emotional and sensory state of the author, who is one of the heroes of the paintings, is conveyed. The main characters are a man, a woman, a dog, the death,  furniture and a stage. All of them are located on an inverted plane, reminiscent of a stage tilted towards the viewer. This space has no walls, behind the stage there is  infinity and abstractness, reminiscent of a kind of thick fog. The characters of the paintings do not have facial features, they are impersonal, immobilized, like puppets,  which were seated by the puppeteer. It draws a parallel between reality and theatricality of what is happening. Home is like a stage where life takes place, where a  person is now forced to play his role. How does a person feel when he lives in a moment of global changes, world experiments and endless restrictions?

Krivoshein Arthur

Born in 1994 in Ufa. The main direction in the work is abstractionism. Lives and works in Moscow. The works are in private collections.

EDUCATION:

  • 2021-2022 - Free Workshops School of Contemporary Art, MMOMA
  • 2012-2018 - Bauman Moscow State Technical University

"In my works abstraction is a way to know and fix the process of thinking.

Most often, my paintings start from a single starting point on the canvas, and end with a multi-layered mass of elements. Random details that have arisen without thinking, spontaneously, just as our thoughts overlap and intertwine with each other.

In this regard, the picture for me is a field for fixing human experience, life choice, internal conflict or consent. These feelings have no form in the material world of things, but in my works they are able to acquire their own image. No one knows what the human process of decision–making, emotions and events looks like - after all, everyone has their own. Therefore, for the viewer, it is abstraction, or rather distraction from familiar forms, that gives freedom to perception and imagination.

Thus, the final outcome of this or that work is initially never known to me, as well as the names of my paintings, which are as spontaneous as possible. For me, this is not an improvisation, rather for me it is the same thought process, decision-making and choice that a person is doomed to make endlessly."
Artur Krivoshein.

Art critic Keti Bogomaz

"I work with the theme of physicality and aesthetics of the exposure of the human body. Using the skills of the academic drawing school, I modify the classic drawing and experiment with materials.
Over the past years, I have been working in my technique: I apply several layers of paint to the initial drawing, after which I open the image in fragments. Removing some of the paint, I then expose parts of the body, then hide them. This way of creating a work allows you to change the course of the plot in the process of work.I put a classic drawing in an abstract space, where it splits up and loses its original appearance."
Egor Laptev

SERIES "MANIFESTED", 2020

In the series “Manifested”, Egor touches on the subject of physicality and aesthetics of the exposure of the human body. Despite changes in public consciousness regarding freedom of expression and self-acceptance, this topic is still taboo.

Characters appear on dark, like film, sheets of paper. In small fragments, Yegor brings out the storyline, now exposing parts of the bodies, then hiding them. Manifested - this is not an illustration of the act, but only an impetus to understanding what is happening. Only the artist knows what is hidden under a thick layer of paint, and only he decides what will be released from the space of the sheet.

The theme of corporeality in this series is revealed by thinking about the sacredness of a naked body. What actually excites consciousness more - its demonstration or concealment? The author sets himself the difficult task of showing and at the same time locking in eternity part of the plot. Asking a question about the creator’s power over his work, he enters into a dialogue with the viewer watching the “manifestation” of the image, which freezes at the moment chosen by the artist.
Art critic Keti Bogomaz

THE SLICES PROJECT, 2021

Not drawn eyes in portraits of people express a deliberate refusal to interact with the outside world and a fascination with the inside. In the key of the practice of fixing the current state, the duration of the creation of each work in the series was limited to one and a half hours. This practice gives rise to random images that are not a statement, but a visualization of a slice of the flow of sensations when immersed in oneself, an internal dialogue.
